There was no full moon this week but it was still a wild night on Friday the 13th at Robert C. Bailey Stadium.

The first half was a slugfest. Both teams took each others best shot and kept getting back up. The standing room only crowd saw Kannapolis opening the scoring as Matthew Ouellette scored on a short run. The PAT was blocked.

Concord replied with a solid drive capped with a Mike Moore touchdown run. Kannapolis scored again as QB Jonathan Efird found Jesse Gillion for a 20 yard touchdown pass. Efird hit TE Zach Massey for the 2 point conversion.

Later in the 2nd quarter Dee Bost fired for the endzone and WR Lance Lewis caught the ball after it was tipped by a Kannapolis defender. Just before halftime Calvin Hillie blocked a Kannapolis field goal attempt and returned it for an apparent touchdown, but there was a penalty on the return. The Score remained 14-14 until Roger Smith's 11 yard TD run just before the half. The halftime score Concord 21 Kannapolis 14.

Both bands performed at halftime. Then the real excitement started. First the scoreboard went blank, then every light went out. The crowd stayed calm and power was restored after about 30 minutes. After an extended warmup the teams started the second half.

Both defenses played tough in the 3rd quarter. The lone score came on a Mike Moore 4 yard TD run.

As usual in the Bell Game the 4th quarter was filled with big plays. Kannapolis got back within one score as Jonathan Efird found Josh Gray for a 44 yard touchdown. Concord's offense answered the bell and drove 90 yards and used much of the remaining time. Mike Moore capped the drive with a 4th down touchdown run.

Lance Lewis put an exclamation point on the night with a 65 yard interception return for a touchdown.

It was a strong team effort for the Spiders. Mike Moore led Concord with 74 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Dee Bost had a solid night going 6-13 with one touchdown pass. The defense was led by Norman Young who recorded 11 solo tackles.

Concord hits the road next week to visit Piedmont.
