Head Coach Darren Shepherd

Head Coach Darren Shepherd was hired by Concord High School in April 2022. 

Coach Shepherd joined the Spiders after a successful run as defensive coordinator at Hickory Ridge High School. In his last season at HRHS the Ragin' Bulls defense was ranked #1 in the Greater Metro 4A conference and in the top 20 in the state yielding only twelve points per conference contest.

Speaking on the chance to be the Spiders Head Coach: “Opportunity is the word that comes to mind. A tremendous opportunity for us to provide the student-athletes and community with a football experience they can be proud of.” said Shepherd.  “I look forward to work with the students and staff, as well as, building relationships throughout the community.”

Former Head Coach Glen Padgett

Head Coach Glen Padgett

Former Head Coach Glen Padgett is a graduate of James F. Byrnes High School(1980) and Wofford College(1984). Coach Padgett returned to Concord in 2009 with an outstanding reputation as a classroom teacher and mentor. 

Coach Padgett's coaching experience includes:

  • James F. Byrnes High School - Duncan, SC: Assistant Coach 1985(State Runner-up) & 1986(State 4A Champion)
  • Concord High School - Assistant Coach 1987-1998 Athletic Director 1989-1998
  • Salisbury High School - Head Coach 1998-1999
  • Northwest Cabarrus High School - Head Coach 1999-2002
  • North Mecklenburg High School - Head Coach 2002-2009
  • Concord High School - Head Coach 2009-2017


Coach Padgett has served as a U.S. History teacher, Leadership and Student Council Advisor, and dropout prevention coordinator.
