The Spiders held off a determined Porter Ridge team 21-16 at Robert C. Bailey Stadium Friday night. Strong special teams play and a few Spider miscues allowed the Pirates to stay close despite only gaining only 48 yards offense (35 passing, 13 rushing).

Dee Bost again turned in a strong perfomance going 15-22 with 3 touchdowns.

TB Roger Smith led all rushers with 105 yards on 19 carries. Lance Lewis led all receivers with 100 yards and 2 TDs.

Concord opened the scoring in the 1st quarter with Dee Bost connecting with Lance Lewis.

Bost again connected with Lewis in the 2nd quarter to build a 13-0 Concord lead.

Porter Ridge took advantage of good field position via special teams and scored on Cameron Jones keeper. Bringing the halftime tally to 13-7.

In the 3rd quarter Concord jumped out to a 21-7 lead as Bost hit Dustin Burris in the endzone for a touchdown.

Porter Ridge recovered a fumble deep in Concord territory and wasted no time scoring as Cameron Jones connected with Brandon Newton.

Porter Ridge then scored a safety as the snap sailed over punter Dustin Burris' head and through the endzone.

The Pirates had one final chance with less than a minute to go but the Spider's defense held on for the win.

Calvin Hillie led the Concord defense with 8 solo tackles, Norman Young also had 5 tackles.

Concord has an open date next week. The Spiders return to action October 6 at Parkwood.

Our resident photographer Dale Barbee is out of town for the Panthers game so no photos this week.
